MATIC - Polygon?

Polygon was formerly called Matic Network.

Polygon (MATIC) is an Ethereum token that powers the Polygon Network, a scaling solution for Ethereum. Polygon aims to provide faster and cheaper transactions on Ethereum using Layer 2 sidechains, which are blockchains that run alongside the Ethereum main chain.

Users can deposit Ethereum tokens to a Polygon smart contract, interact with them within Polygon, and then later withdraw them back to the Ethereum main chain. The MATIC token is used to pay transaction fees and participate in proof-of-stake consensus.

Advice to new crypto investors?

To stay ahead of your crypto investment, you ought to make due research on what crypto is itself. That way, no one can easily talk you out nor would the chaos surrounding the crypto ecology itself pose a challenge that you can't handle. Should you know know what you're doing, the FUD would just be noise in your ears.

Again and more importantly, learn the act of actually hodling your crypto investment as those who hodl have been found to gain the most of it but to be able to hodl, you need great patience. So patience isn't just a virtue in crypto, it's a virtue that helps you be on the side of profit especially when it comes to hodling.

Amongst all, seek knowledge about a system or field of interest before investing. For cryptos, NairaTrading can stand in as a source of Crypto knowledge and verification. That's about what the forum stands to be, ask your questions.

Buy the dip?

Buying the dip means buying crypto-assets at cheaper or lower prices. The dip has a bottom but you can ascertain the bottom without technical analysis and fundamentals. There are thousands of cryptocurrencies out there. For crypto assets with little or no utility, it's best to follow fundamentals.

The goal is to buy low and sell high but buying the dip isn't as simple as it sounds it involves market timing, and in short no one knows for sure how the market will turn out but we do our best to be on the safe side. Resist the urge to FOMO.

Buy the dip become an expression of everyone when there is a red market going on.

Note
Some people use this to lure newbies, like "buy the dip" so they can sell more, like manipulation in somehow. That's why there will always a meme about this famous line, like "They say buy the dip, but it still dips and dips". But this is one of the best ways to accumulate Bitcoin or other cryptos if you intended to hold it for the long term, buying some amount on dips (depends on how you prefer the dip, like x % of dump then you consider it as a dip).

What is Dip in cryptocurrency trading?

A dip is basically when the price goes below the support line or better said below the intrinsic value. That definition makes a "dip" a worthy price to start buying.

The problem is to figure out the difference between a dip (where you would want to buy) and a dump (where you want to stay away) which all comes down to intrinsic value which is a very difficult thing to measure. We could use some technical analysis and mostly look at the past performance and decide what the intrinsic value of bitcoin is then decide based on that.

Let's take 2018 for example. Bitcoin's intrinsic value was somewhere between $6k and $8k so anything below those values was a dip and an excellent opportunity to buy bitcoin especially during the big accumulation phase in the $6k range. As you can see today anyone buying bitcoin then is currently enjoying a 480% profit.

This also means you can ignore the short-term volatility, drama, and market manipulation aka falling below $6k and reaching $3k.

Types of cryptocurrency wallets?

For security, ease of use, durability over time, there are several wallets available:

Types of wallets

Note: A wallet secures your coins.

The exchange is not safe, your coins are in danger, "if you don't have your keys, you don't have your bitcoins", don't trust exchanges. Never download software or updates on third-party pages.

Some of the most recognized wallets:

Desktop
Bitcoin Core

My favorite wallet, is the Bitcoin Core desktop wallet, is very easy to use and at the same time, allows you to maintain a Full Node to contribute to the Bitcoin network, in my case it works 24/7 and also because I consider it very safe.

How to prevent Sybil Attack?

The best way to prevent a Sybil attack is to have at least one node whose identity is not public. To execute a Sybil attack, the attacker needs to know about all of your nodes and cut them off from the rest of the network accordingly. If you have one secret node, the attacker has no way to know to cut off that node, and you can be aware of the attack attempt.

A Sybil attack also does not need to have mining power if the victim is willing to accept 0/conf transactions.

Note
If the attacker knows of your connections, you do not have a secret node. The attacker knows of all the nodes you are using. If you are using public wifi, you could connect to your home computer (that is also a node), which connects (not via a node) to another node on a VPS that only you are aware of. The attacker might be able to Sybil your home computer node, but would not be able to Sybil your VPS node, and you can be alerted of the attack and act accordingly.

More Insight:
*Someone is running a node on a public WiFi network -- this is potentially vulnerable to a Sybil

*Your computer on the public WiFi network connects to your home computer via an encrypted connection -- your home computer is running a full node and is vulnerable to a Sybil if an attacker is attempting to attack you specifically, although this type of Sybil is more difficult to pull off.

*Your home computer has an encrypted connection to a VPS (or another computer on a different network) via an encrypted connection that will relay block/transaction information to your laptop via software other than bitcoin software. An attacker trying to specifically attack you will have no way to know they need to Sybil the node running on the VPS.

Sybil Attack?

In this attack, the attacker fills the network with their nodes and could connect to your node and fill all its connection slots to effectively cut it off from the rest of the network. Then they can prevent your node from broadcasting transactions, seeing new blocks, etc.

The worst thing that can happen is if Sybil attack is combined with some mining power. The attacker, after isolating the victim's node, could perform a double-spend while cutting that node off from seeing the double-spent transaction and mine a block to contain an invalid tx (already spent) that pays that node's operator.

How does transaction fees work?

Transaction confirmation speed depends largely on how much hash power is mining bitcoin, at a predefined "difficulty" that adjusts itself about every 2 weeks based on the current hash power. If large numbers of miners suddenly go offline, global hash power does down, but the difficulty stays the same, so what happens is it will take longer for the network to mine new blocks, so even high-fee transactions end up waiting a long time for the next block to be mined.

Calculating Transaction Fee
Before you can calculate the transaction fee, you must first calculate the transaction size because the total fee paid increases for transactions with more bytes.

There are two different transaction size formulas used by clients today, the first is the old "bytes" calculator which pre-segwit wallets (or wallets that just don't want to implement segwit) use, whose size is calculated like this:

number of inputs * 146 + number of outputs * 33 + 10

The other size formula gives you the size in vbytes (virtual bytes), and this is the measurement unit now used by the bitcoin network, and also wallets that support segwit, instead of "bytes":

number of inputs * 68.5 + number of outputs * 31 + 10

Now you might be wondering, what are vbytes? They are related to another tx size unit called Weight. vbytes is just Weight/4. To calculate weight, you count the size of the transaction in normal bytes but you multiply the sizes of some parts of the transaction by 4.

Why all these complications for finding the transaction size? Well, developers wanted to make transaction sizes smaller so people would pay less overall in fees. The network fee rate (e.g. 10 sats/byte) did not change with this, just the transaction sizes.

Crytocurrency trading?

This is just an information about crytocurrency trading.
When it comes to crypto trading, there are several steps you can take to reduce your exposure to the most extreme price volatility in the financial markets.

In general, risk management is distributing a good number of different cryptocurrencies within your portfolio. It is a great measure to limit your exposure to price fluctuations within the market.

A combination of technical and fundamental analysis can determine the asset while ensuring more significant chances of success in a specific investment while minimizing risk.
Creating a successful risk management plan is critical to minimizing unexpected negative consequences that lower your total losses.

How to calculate the proper Position Size (in instrument ratio)?

An example of calculating Risk for a trade with a deposit of $10,000.

1. Risk 1%. $10,000*1%=$100. If you are ready to Risk more – replace 1% with your comfortable Risk.

2. If the position that you will enter BTC at is $10145, the Stop Loss is placed at $9000, 11,28% lower than the Entry point. If Stop Loss will be triggered, your loss will be $1145. Don’t confuse Risk and distance from Entry to Stop.

3. Calculating the position size/order size for 1% Risk.

$100/1145 = 0.08734 (in BTC)

3.1. For a trade you will use 0.08734*$10145 (Entry point) = $886.06 (In Dollars)

4. Ready-check for Stop Loss:

0.08734*9000=786.06. Entered for $886.06, got back 786.06. In the end 886.06-786.06=$100 (1% risk from $10,000).

By reducing the Stop Loss (in fact, reducing the distance between Stop Loss and Entry) position size is increasing.

We recommend you use an excel formula to decrease the time of calculating and make it possible to calculate both Long and Short positions.
